TIGW Tours by Nexa – VENICE: ART GLASS: FORMS, STORIES AND HIDDEN TREASURES

09-23-2022

The TIGW Tours by Nexa for Saturday, September 17 and Friday, September 23 in Venice are dedicated to the craftsmen and workshops who, in the heart of the city, perpetuate the ancient craft of art glass making. These guided itineraries are designed to explore the hidden treasures of one of Venice's most authentic traditions.

September 23 - VENICE

During the morning tour, a visit to SUV, Salvatore and Antonella's workshop, where everything has remained unchanged since 1940 is an absolute must! Here you can breathe in the authenticity of artistic artefacts in which glass is mixed and mingled with other precious materials. The process used is lampworking, a technique which, with the help of fire, makes the glass rod "soft" and pliable. Countless nuances of colour are created by hot mixing different rods and customising each individual piece with decorations made from very fine coloured swirls and dots, fused onto the basic element, or by combining murrine, glass beads, gold or silver leaf. Salvatore and Antonella also preserve a historical archive of beads of every size and colour, so if you are looking for something on which to feast your eyes and want to see something unique, this is the right place for you!

The afternoon tour focuses on Massimo Micheluzzi and his glass creations that pay homage to the centuries-old Murano traditions, and yet reveal a modern and original aesthetic. His tireless experimentation in materials and forms is firmly rooted in the life and history of the city and inspired by the atmosphere, light and architecture of Venice. Present in the collections of the world's most important museums, his creations can be viewed in the artist's studio, a place expressing all the passion of an eclectic approach that reflects the infinite creative possibilities of glass. His artworks include fluid and organic shapes, iridescent transparencies and opaque surfaces, as well as elaborate colour combinations, mosaic patterns and sculptural forms. A unique opportunity to explore the world of art glass!
